Social Concerns Committee
The purpose and goals of the committee is t o promote a sense of “Community” at the Parish level by providing opportunities for Parish families to interact with each other, to be of service to each other and to members of our local community. Through our various committees we try to provide a full range of support to those in need.
Samaritans (Outreach program for the needy)
Holy Trinity Samaritans assist the needy in our Parish and to members of our community within our parish boundaries. . Individuals who call the rectory needing assistance are referred to the Samaritans by the Parish Secretary. There is a team of two Samaritans on call for a week at a time. The Samaritan then contacts the individual, gathers facts, and decides on action to be taken. Action by the Samaritan may be limited to providing references to possible sources for help (SERVE, PW County, etc.) or to actually providing financial assistance. A detailed procedure has been developed and is used to train new Samaritans. Resource book is given to each case worker. All information is confidential.
Meetings are held every other month in the evening.
Cyrenians (Bereavement Support Group)
Volunteers visit the bereaved offering support and assistance with preparations for both wake and funeral. Volunteers assist at the wake and funeral, assisting family and guests. Follow up contact is made several weeks after the funeral. The Cyrenians sponsor a Mass in November at the Rectory for families who have experienced the death of a loved one during the past year.

Other Activities
Sometimes additional activities are planned, such as this year’s trip to ALASKA with Fr. Peffley. Suggestions are presented and discussed at general membership meetings.
Note: Many of the subcommittees meet every other month, so we no longer schedule a monthly meeting, especially during the summer months. Announcements are usually posted in the Bulletin, the Thursday parish e-mail, and a notice sent by email to list of all members.
Current Chairperson for this committee is Jeanne Andreoni at 703-361-9840. Subcommittee chairpersons are listed in the Bulletin, or may be contacted through the parish secretary.
