This weekend we welcome Fr. Vincent Bork who will be assigned here with us. As I mentioned in a past blurb, he has been ordained 25 years for our diocese. Previous to his ordination he obtained a doctorate in physics and taught at the college level. He comes to us from St. Rita’s in Alexandria. We look forward to having here at Holy Trinity!
Years ago I was introduced to a daily email called ‘The Morning Offering’. There is normally a quote or two from a saint and/or spiritual writer about a spiritual topic. The one that struck me recently is from St. John of the Cross. He was a Carmelite priest and mystic who wrote extensively on the spiritual life. ‘The Dark Night of the Soul’ is one of his greatest works on the spiritual life. In that book, the following quote is found:
"Others, again, seeing their own imperfections, become angry with themselves with an impatience that is not humble. They are so impatient with their shortcomings as if they would be saints in one day. Many of these make many grand resolutions, but, being self-confident and not humble, the more they resolve, the more they fall, and the more angry they become; not having the patience to wait for God’s time; this is also opposed to spiritual meekness. There is no perfect remedy for this but in the dark night. There are, however, some people who are so patient, and who advance so slowly in their spiritual progress, that God wishes they were not so patient."

Este fin de semana le dimos la bienvenida al Padre Vincent Bork quien estará asignado aquí con nosotros. Como lo mencione en un comentario anterior, él fue ordenado al sacerdocio hace 25 años para nuestra diócesis. Previo a su ordenación él obtuvo un doctorado en Física y dio clases a nivel Universitario. Él viene a nosotros de Sta. Rita en Alexandria. ¡Nos da gusto tenerlo aquí en Holy Trinity!
Hace algunos años me presentaron a un correo electrónico diario llamado ‘El Ofrecimiento de la Mañana’. Normalmente hay una cita o dos de un santo y/o un escritor espiritual acerca de un tema espiritual. Uno que me impresionó recientemente vino de Sn. Juan de la Cruz. Él era un sacerdote Carmelita y místico que escribió extensamente acerca de la vida espiritual. ‘La Noche Oscura del Alma’ es una de sus más grandes obras acerca de la vida espiritual. En ese libro, se encuentra la siguiente cita:
"Otros, una vez más, viendo sus propias imperfecciones, se enojan consigo mismos con una impaciencia que no es humilde. Ellos son tan impacientes con sus defectos como si se fueran a hacer santos en un día. Muchos de estos hacen grandes resoluciones, pero, siendo tan seguros de sí mismos y no humildes, cuando más resuelven, más caen; y entre más se enojan, más resuelven; y entre más caen, más se enojan; sin tener la paciencia para esperar por el tiempo de Dios; esto también es opuesto a la mansedumbre espiritual. No hay un remedio perfecto para esto sino en la noche oscura. Sin embargo, hay algunas personas que son tan pacientes, y que avanzan tan despacio en su progreso espiritual, que Dios desearía que no fueran tan pacientes".
