Thank you to those who helped make the Christmas Masses beautiful and reverent: Mr. Trevor Rowland and the choirs that spent many hours preparing for Christmas; everyone that decorated the church; the ushers, lectors, and altar servers who gave of their time generously. Finally, thank you for your cards, gifts and spiritual bouquets for the priests. It is a gift to be a part of Holy Trinity.
One cannot think of Christmas at Holy Trinity without the Bethlehem Walk. Thank you to everyone who made our Bethlehem Walk incredible again. Of those who ‘experienced’ Bethlehem, close to half had not been to Bethlehem Walk in the past. What a gift to our parish and community to help others, especially the young, have an experience of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus.
As we begin another year, there are many petitions to bring before Our Lord. We would be remiss if we are not praying and sacrificing for an end to legalized abortion in our country. We are able to publicly, prayerfully protest this assault on defenseless little ones at the March for Life on Friday, January 21st. We have many buses going to the March. Sign-ups will be available after all Masses next weekend. What a tremendous message to send to politicians and others in Washington, D.C. that unborn children are human beings.
The Supreme Court heard arguments in early December on the Mississippi law that all but bans abortions after 15 weeks of the child’s life in his/her mother’s womb. The decision of the Court will have ramifications through the country. May we aid the nine justices, six of whom are Catholic, with our daily prayers and sacrifices. Satan – which means ‘tempter’ – will tempt the justices through human respect, fear, pride and a myriad of other ways to take the ‘easier’ course.
We should recall Our Lord’s words that some sins are only overcome through prayer and fasting. God is all-powerful. He could end abortion instantly. Why doesn’t He? He chooses to include us in providence. He chose to include Mary in the Redemption of the world. He chose to include the Apostles in bringing His Grace to men. He chooses us to bring His Truth and Love to others. Will we unite with Our Lord in helping our Supreme Court to think clearly and judge courageously – to protect and defend unborn babies and their mothers?
How? Perhaps, we can pray Nine Hail Marys every day until the decision is public – most likely June. Or, perhaps Nine Memorares? There are many ways to pray daily for the overturn of abortion. Fasting? It need not be huge. It does need to be consistent – daily. Can I give up a favorite food? Screens? Get up at a certain time? The opportunities are many.

Gracias a todos los que ayudaron a hacer que las Misas de Navidad fueran bellas y reverentes: el Sr. Trevor Rowland y sus coros quienes pasaron muchas horas preparándose para Navidad; todos los que decoraron la iglesia; los ujieres, lectores, y monaguillos quienes dieron su tiempo generosamente. Finalmente, gracias a todos por sus tarjetas, regalos, y ramilletes espirituales para los sacerdotes. Es un regalo ser parte de Holy Trinity.
Uno no se puede imaginar Navidad en Holy Trinity sin El Camino a Belén (Bethlehem Walk). Gracias a todos los que hicieron que El Camino a Belén fuera increíble una vez más. De todos los que ‘experimentaron’ Belén, casi la mitad de ellos no habían venido al Camino a Belén en el pasado. Que gran regalo de nuestra parroquia y comunidad poder ayudar a otros, especialmente a los jóvenes, a tener la experiencia de Belén en el tiempo de Jesús.
Ahora que comenzamos otro año, hay muchas peticiones que queremos llevar ante Nuestro Señor. Seriamos descuidados si no estuviéramos rezando y haciendo sacrificios por el fin de la legalización del aborto en nuestro país. Nosotros podemos protestar piadosa y públicamente, este asalto a los pequeños indefensos, durante la Marcha por la Vida, el 21 de enero. Vamos a tener varios buses disponibles para ir a la Marcha. Las inscripciones estarán disponibles después de las Misas el próximo fin de semana. Qué tremendo mensaje que los niños no nacidos son seres humanos le enviaríamos a los políticos y a otros en Washington D.C.
La Corte Suprema escuchó argumentos a principios de diciembre acerca de la ley de Mississippi que prohíbe el aborto después de 15 semanas de vida en el vientre de su madre. La decisión de la Corte va a tener ramificaciones alrededor del país. Tal vez podríamos ayudar a los nueve jueces, de los cuales seis son católicos, con nuestras oraciones diarias y sacrificios. Satanás – que significa ‘tentador’ – va a tentar a los jueces a través de respeto humano, miedo, orgullo, y otras innumerables formas para que tomen el camino más ‘fácil’.
Debemos recordar las palabras de Nuestro Señor de que algunos pecados sólo se pueden vencer a través de la oración y el ayuno. Dios es Todopoderoso. Él puede terminar con el aborto instantáneamente. ¿Por qué no lo hace? Él escoge incluirnos en Providencia. Él escoge incluir a María en la Redención del mundo. Él escoge incluir a los Apóstoles para llevar Su Gracia a los hombres. Él nos escoge a nosotros para llevar Su Verdad y Amor a otros. ¿Nos vamos a unir a Nuestro Señor para ayudar a nuestra Corte Suprema a pensar claramente y a juzgar con valor – para proteger y defender a los bebés no nacidos y a sus madres?
¿Como? A lo mejor podemos rezar nueve Ave Marías cada día hasta que la decisión se haga pública – seguramente en junio. ¿O, tal vez nueve Memorares? Hay muchas formas de rezar diariamente para revertir el aborto. ¿Ayuno? No tiene que ser enorme. Pero si debe ser consistente – a diario. ¿Puedo dejar de comer mi comida favorita? ¿Las pantallas? ¿Levantarme a cierta hora? Las oportunidades son muchas.
