,There is a conflict between Faith and Science! Really? Not from the angle of Faith, namely the Catholic Faith. The Catholic Faith has no fear of science. Why are people of science fearful of the Faith? Ah, some will say they are not afraid of Faith. Why not present the whole truth, history between Faith and Science then?! Perhaps, it would be good for us to consider just a few points.
God is the creator of the spiritual and physical world. As people of faith, there is no worry that science will discredit and/or contradict God’s existence and all His tenets. Why should there be any conflict between the spiritual and physical world if they have the same Author?
If one does not admit God’s existence, how did matter that breaks down and vanishes exist? The ‘pure’ evolutionist will say it was some sort of release of energy – call it a ‘Big Bang’ – that brought matter into existence and started evolution. Hmmm. There’s a problem rooted in the faith of the evolutionist. Yes, I said ‘faith of the evolutionist.’ What caused the Big Bang if not a Being that exists outside of it and is not dependent any other power for existence? What caused that release of energy? Where did the initial matter come from that blew up? It did not get there on its own! Again, something outside of the material world had to have created it. In both cases the evolutionist has faith, belief without seeing, because he believes in these things without proof! Every evolutionist has faith, just a blind faith. (We should not forget that the author of the Big Bang Theory was a Catholic priest, Fr. Georges Lemaitre. He attempted to show that God could have created the universe using a Big Bang!)
But, the Catholic Church has been anti-science! It silenced Galileo when he taught the truth of the solar system revolving around the sun rather than the earth. Yes, there were some clerics who overreached their bounds with Galileo. But, was it because of the subject of his teaching? Let’s not forget who Galileo followed in his thought of a heliocentric solar system. Copernicus taught the same roughly a century before Galileo. He was not disciplined by the Catholic Church. Actually, do you Copernicus’ full name? Nicholas Copernicus. Father Nicholas Copernicus was a Catholic priest!
For those of you who are Star Trek devotees, what is the name of the captain in the ‘Next Generation’ Star Trek? Jean Picard? Fictional? He is not a fictional character totally. He was a Catholic priest in the 1600s who developed the standard method for measuring the right ascension of a celestial object. The ‘Picard’ mission, an orbiting solar observatory, was named after him. Coincidence?
There have been thousands of faithful Catholics who have contributed to and been involved in science throughout the centuries. It is dishonest and ignorant to claim otherwise. Today, as we remember the Three Wise Men whose study of the stars led them to Jesus, God, may we be led to Jesus by our study of science.

¡Hay un conflicto entre la Fé y la Ciencia! ¿De verdad? No desde la perspectiva de la Fé, más específicamente, de la Fé Católica. La Fé Católica no le tiene miedo a la ciencia. ¿Por qué la gente de ciencia le teme a la Fé? Ah! Algunos dirán que ellos no le temen a la Fé. Entonces, ¿por qué no presentar toda la verdad, la historia entre la Fé y la ciencia? Tal vez, sería bueno considerar algunos puntos.
Dios es el creador del mundo espiritual y físico. Como personas de fe, no hay preocupación que la ciencia vaya a desacreditar y/o contradecir la existencia de Dios y toda su doctrina. ¿Por qué debería haber conflicto entre en mundo espiritual y el físico si tienen un mismo Autor?
Si uno no admite la existencia de Dios, ¿cómo es que existe la materia que se quiebra y desaparece? Los evolucionistas ‘puros’ dirán que fue algo como una liberación de energía – llámenlo un ‘Big-Bang’ (‘La Gran Explosión’) – lo que hizo que la materia existiera y comenzará la evolución. Hmmm. Hay un problema arraigado en la fe de los evolucionistas. Si, dije ‘fe de los evolucionistas’. ¿Qué causó la gran explosión si no fue un Ser que existe y que no depende de ningún otro poder para la existencia? ¿Que causó la liberación de la energía? ¿De donde vino inicialmente la materia que explotó? ¡Porque no llegó allí solita! Una vez más, algo fuera del mundo material tuvo que haberlo creado. En ambos casos, el evolucionista tiene fe, cree sin ver, ¡porque cree en estas cosas sin pruebas! Cada evolucionista tiene fe, solo que es una fe ciega. (No debemos olvidar que el autor de la teoría de la Teoría de la Gran Explosión es un sacerdote católico, el Padre Georges Lemaitre. ¡Él intentaba mostrar que Dios pudo haber creado el universo usando una Gran Explosión!)
Pero, ¡la Iglesia Católica ha sido anti-ciencia! Silenció a Galileo cuando enseñó la verdad que el sistema solar giraba alrededor del sol en vez de alrededor de la Tierra. Si, ha habido algunos miembros del clero que se pasaron de sus límites con Galileo. Pero, ¿fue por causa del tema de su enseñanza? No olvidemos a quien seguía Galileo en su pensamiento acerca del Sistema solar heliocéntrico. Copérnico enseñó lo mismo un siglo antes de Galileo. Él no fue disciplinado por la Iglesia Católica. De hecho, ¿saben ustedes el nombre complete de Copérnico? Nicolás Copérnico. ¡¡El Padre Nicolás Copérnico era un sacerdote Católico!!
Para todos ustedes que son devotos del Star Trek (Viaje a las Estrellas), ¿cuál es el nombre del capitán en la ‘Siguiente Generación’ de Viaje a las Estrellas? ¿Jean Picard? ¿Ficción? Él no es totalmente un personaje de ficción. Él fue un sacerdote católico de los años 1600 que desarrolló el método para medir la ascensión correcta de un objeto celestial. La misión ‘Picard’, un observatorio solar en órbita, fue nombrada así en honor a él. ¿Coincidencia?
Ha habido miles de católicos que han contribuido y que han estado involucrados en la ciencia a través de los siglos. Es deshonesto e ignorante afirmar otra cosa. Hoy, mientras recordamos a los Tres Reyes Magos quienes estudiaron las estrellas que los guiaron hacia Jesús, Dios, ojalá que seamos guiados hacia Jesús a través de nuestro estudio de la ciencia.
