Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest! And on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” . . . Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.
There is only one Infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger who could remove fear and bring joy.
The angel says, For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. The Messiah and Lord, the Savior, casts out fear and brings joy. For, He is Love; Love always casts out fear. When Love – God – is possessed one has joy.
Do we see fear in the stable in Bethlehem? Were Mary and Joseph ever afraid? We see love and joy in the stable. Isn’t it the same at most Nativity scenes nowadays? The only ones who fear at the Birth of the Christ-Child are those Herods who go away sad, blinded by selfishness.
May we learn from Mary and Joseph and the shepherds where love and joy are found: with Jesus Christ, Love Himself in our daily living out of His Plan for each of us, in His Merciful Sacrament of Penance and, most especially, in His Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist.

En la región había pastores que vivían en el campo y que por la noche se tumbaban para cuidar sus rebaños. Se les apareció un ángel del Señor, y la Gloria del Señor los rodeó de claridad, y quedaron muy asustados. Pero el ángel les dijo: “No tengan miedo, pues yo vengo a comunicarles una Buena Nueva, que será el motivo de mucha alegría para todo el pueblo: hoy, en la ciudad de David, ha nacido para ustedes un Salvador, que es el Mesías y el Señor. Miren como lo reconocerán: hallarán a un niño recién nacido, envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre”. De pronto una multitud de seres celestiales aparecieron junto al ángel, y alababan a Dios con estas palabras: “Gloria a Dios en el Cielo y en la Tierra paz a los hombres, esta es la hora de su gracia”… Después los pastores regresaron, alabando y glorificando a Dios por todo lo que habían visto y oído, tal como los ángeles se los habían anunciado…
Solo hay un bebé envuelto en pañales acostado en el pesebre que puede quitar el miedo y traer alegría.
El ángel dice, Porque hoy en la ciudad de David ha nacido para ustedes un Salvador, que es el Mesías y Señor. El Mesías y Señor, el Salvador expulsa el miedo y trae alegría. Porque, Él es Amor; el Amor siempre expulsa el miedo. Cuando uno posee Amor – Dios – uno tiene alegría.
¿Vemos miedo en el establo en Belén? ¿José y María tuvieron miedo alguna vez? En el establo vemos amor y alegría. ¿No es lo mismo en casi todas las escenas de Navidad? Los únicos que temen el Nacimiento del Niño-Cristo son los Herodes que están tristes, cegados por el egoísmo.
Ojalá que aprendamos de María y José y los pastores en donde el amor y la alegría se pueden encontrar; con Jesucristo, el Amor Mismo viviendo diariamente Su Plan para cada uno de nosotros, en Su Sacramento Misericordioso de la Penitencia y especialmente, en Su Presencia Real, en la Sagrada Eucaristía.
